Super Bowl ticket prices, Taylor Swift conspiracy theories

I do not care a single rat’s hindquarters about the NFL or the Super Bowl. I did not even know which teams would be playing (the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, it turns out) until I saw a related article on the Internet this morning.

My first reaction was: more Taylor Swift hype, coming our way! Yes, much as I would like to remain in blissful ignorance, I am aware that Swift is dating Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce. Why couldn’t she have found a boyfriend on a team that didn’t even make it to the playoffs? Does anyone really need yet another Taylor Swift newsflash? Must we have her with NFL football, too?

What really struck me, however, were the news stories about this year’s ticket prices. The average ticket price for the 2024 Super Bowl is $12,082. A cheap seat will run you $9,858.

This makes this year’s Super Bowl a one-percenter event, by any stretch of the imagination. Never mind the fact that Taylor Swift is a billionaire. The days when going to a pro football game was a form of middle-class recreation are long behind us.

Meanwhile, the mainstream media is trumpeting a supposed “rightwing conspiracy theory”.  According to Rolling Stone, CNN, and others, Republicans are claiming that the Super Bowl has been rigged in favor of the Chiefs, in order that Kelce girlfriend Taylor Swift will have a platform from which to endorse Joe Biden’s reelection bid.

In case you haven’t noticed, Taylor Swift already has a platform. CNN runs a story about her practically every day. She’ll continue to have a platform regardless of which team wins Super Bowl  LVIII.

I don’t expect the outcome of the Super Bowl to affect the 2024 election too much. Ditto for Taylor Swift.

We already know that Swift is a caviar Democrat. Furthermore, anyone gullible enough to take political advice from her has already decided to vote for Joe Biden in November.
