What do you say when everyone involved in a public controversy is kind of a jerk?
I’ve seen the online buzz about the so-called “Phillies Karen”, who demanded an errant ball (back?) from a father and his son after the father grabbed it.
If you watch the video, the man ran down the aisle to an area where he wasn’t seated. He did appear to snatch the ball away from Phillies Karen as she was either grabbing it, or about to grab it.
Did Phillies Karen overreact?
Yes, she did.
This is one of those situations that is “open to interpretation”, in the words of one of my former bosses. Neither the father nor Phillies Karen came off looking very good here.
At the end of the day, it is just a baseball…and a used one, at that. You can get a new baseball on Amazon for not much money at all. So what’s the big deal?
Such is the mentality, all too often, among people who spend inordinate amounts of time watching grown men play boys’ games. Rabid spectator sports fans have a tendency to assign too much gravity to things that are ultimately insignificant.
