I awoke last night to the sound of thunder. (Hey, that sounds just like the lyrics of a Bob Seger song!) Then came the rain, and the beating of the hail against the windows.
And then came the power outage, as the whole house went dark with a series of beeps and clicks.
This has been a rough weather week in the Buckeye State. Earlier this week, the Dayton area suffered a tornado outbreak. Weather in Cincinnati has also been less than pleasant: hot, wet, and muggy. (Is this Ohio, or Thailand?)
There is nothing like a power outage, though, to remind us how dependent we are on modern infrastructure. The outage came at 1:44 a.m., so I wasn’t doing any writing. But who wants to be without air conditioning in late May?
When the zombie apocalypse comes, I hope that I am taken out in the initial wave. Fighting zombies every day to stay alive would certainly be bad enough. But living without electricity would be the really tough part.
