Netflix is raising its prices again, in case you haven’t heard.
I’ve had several Netflix memberships over the years. None of my flirtations with Netflix has lasted more than a year at a stretch. For me, the problem is not the price (even with the latest price increases). Netflix is still pretty cheap, in the big scheme of things.
The problems with Netflix are the selection and the quality. Invariably, the movies I want to see aren’t available on the service. And I’m not talking about either obscure art films, or movies that are still playing in the cinema. I’m talking about older mainstream movies that were popular upon release, but are long past their cinema days. The same with series that weren’t produced by Netflix.
What Netflix has in spades are low-budget series and B-movies that I don’t want to see. There is a lot of content there, but too much chaff and not enough wheat.
