Like many liberal Democratic politicians, Portland’s Mayor Ted Wheeler initially tried to walk a fine line of accommodation with the anarchists who took over our cities this past summer.
Law-abiding citizens paid the price, with soaring crime rates, and (in the cases of Seattle and Portland), the total breakdown of civic order in many urban areas.
More than six months later, Mayor Wheeler has finally realized the hard truth: There is a group of hardcore leftwing extremists who are not interested in “dialogue” or “finding common ground”.
For that matter, they don’t even have any concrete goals, other than anarchy and destruction. They made this clear from the outset—with both their words and their actions.
Mayor Wheeler says, “It’s time to push back harder against those who are set on destroying our community.”
It was high time for that in June. But better late than never.
